Physical traits

You have beautiful big eyes, full lips, soft skin, and thick, luscious hair. You have a naturally curvy body and have the strongest stamina of the doshas.

You enjoy a regular appetite and love to eat with a relatively slow-burning digestion. This may cause you to gain weight easily, feel sluggish, and find it challenging to get up and going in the morning.

You are naturally a deep sleeper, yet have a tendency to be lazy and are capable of sleeping for longer than others. You tend to have cold-clammy hands and sugar cravings, but balance your body temperature well

Mental traits

You are warm, loyal, kind and nurturing. People come to you whenever they need a shoulder to lean on. You have a great sense of humor and get along with anyone.

But as a Kapha, you tend to hold things within yourself, making you become heavier both with weight and emotional grief. It may be difficult for you to try new things and get out of your comfort zone. You tend to stick with what you know and sometimes limit your potential.

Though you are there for everyone else, you have the tendency to suppress your own emotions. This can lead to emotional or binge eating.

You are sweet, funny and peaceful. You have amazing long-term memory, good strength and stamina, a healthy and robust physiology, are a team players, are reliable and enjoy sound sleep, You are grounded, compassionate, and affectionate.

You become lazy, depressed or lonely. You can gain weight easily, have slow digestion, and may be prone to sinus and respiratory problems. You also feel lethargic, find it difficult to wake-up, and can experience food cravings and depression.

FINDING YOUR BALANCE!

So now that you know more about yourself as a Kapha, how can you bring on the balance that will help you become more physically healthy? Avoid digestive problems? Get a good night’s sleep?

Nourishing Your BODY
TIP #1: GET MOVING!!

Movement is true medicine for Kaphas! You may feel your sedentary nature taking over and resisting exercise, but it’s CRUCIAL for you to stay active to maintain balance!

HAVE FUN WITH IT! 
 
  • Get your exercise out of the way first thing in the morning -- this will not only make you feel AMAZING energetically, but also sets you up for a fantastic day.
  • Shake yourself out of bed!
  • Move in ways you enjoy...vigorous exercise is best for Kaphas. Don’t like the gym? Hit up a Zumba class, dance to your favorite jams, go on a brisk walk with a friend, hop on the trampoline…. Find joy in fun ways to move!

Awaken Your MIND
TIP #2: BREATHE
Kaphas are prone to respiratory issues… so mindful breathing is extra beneficial for you!

  • Find a comfortable position to lay or to sit upright.
  • Make sure your spine is straight.
  • Place your hands over your belly and begin to breathe down into the lower part of your abdomen for a count of 4, hold the breath in for a count of 4, then exhale the air out for a count of 4, holding at the bottom for a count of 4.
  • Continue this pattern of “box breathing” (inhale for 4 seconds, hold for 4 seconds, exhale for 4 seconds, hold for 4 seconds)
  • Repeat at least 10 times in a row. 
This is wonderful to do in the morning when you first wake up, before even leaving your bedroom. It will not only nourish your body and fill your cells with fresh oxygen… but it will also begin to AWAKEN your nervous system, enlivening you with an added boost of energy to start the day!
Thriving SOCIALLY
TIP #3: MIX IT UP!
Kaphas are creatures of habit… rarely changing their routine. With the tendency to be lazy (which often prevents you from achieving what you want), it’s important to MIX THE ROUTINE UP!

TRY SOMETHING NEW AND FRESH!

What is something you always dreamed about doing but haven’t tried yet? What did you use to do as a kid that you LOVED? It’s time to play again!! Challenge yourself to HAVE FUN and explore the way you used to before life took a hold of you.

Here is a Simple DAILY ROUTINE to help to you THRIVE as a Kapha:
 
  • Wake up before the sun rises to get your day started bright and early.
  • Practice your morning routine: eliminate, scrape tongue, brush teeth, wash face, oil pull with sesame oil
  • Drink a warm cup of tea (add ginger, cinnamon, and cayenne) and do breathwork
  • Get your exercise in!
  • Wait until you're TRULY hungry to eat breakfast. Enjoy something warm and light, such as oatmeal with almond milk and cinnamon. (Avoid dairy and pastries)
  • Complete your HARDEST task of the day FIRST!
  • Wait until you’re hungry again to eat lunch
  • Avoid snacking throughout the day. Wait 4-6 hours for your next meal
  • Take a brisk walk in nature
  • Eat an early, light, easy-to-digest dinner, like vegetable soup
  • Enjoy a nightly warm tonic, oil your body with sesame oil, and turn off all technology
  • Get to sleep soundly by 10PM
Establishing this simple routine will begin to create that Balance you need to regain your health and energize your life!
