Nourishing Your BODY
TIP #1: Stay COOL!
- Avoid time in direct sunlight (especially midday). Seek indoor activities, especially when the sun is high.
- Wear light clothes to keep you cool
- Avoid exercising in the heat (morning workouts are great!)
- YOGA poses that are great for Pittas → Forward folds, Reclined butterfly pose, child’s pose
- Avoid spicy foods (cayenne peppers, chili powder), coffee, onions, and garlic. As much as you may love these foods, they can aggravate your digestion even further.
Calming your MIND
TIP #2: PRACTICE MINDFULNESS
While Pittas minds are always going…it’s usually not mindful. To be mindful one must be PRESENT in the moment. Regular mindfulness practices will allow your career, relationships, digestion, and health to seriously thrive!
- Take time away from technology (maybe at least an extra hour off of your phone each day, a technology-free day each week, or a social media detox for a week/month)
- When you’re with family/friends… allow yourself be fully present there (no thinking about work or multi-tasking). By doing this, you show them you they are fully worth your time and are loved.
TIP #3: ESTABLISH A ROUTINE
Here is a Simple DAILY ROUTINE to help to you THRIVE as a Pitta:
- Wake up before dawn each day
- Practice morning routine: eliminate, tongue scrape, brush teeth, wash face, oil pull with coconut oil.

TIP #4: CHILLING OUT
When out of balance, you may find yourself becoming easily aggravated, angry, or irritable. It’s extra important for you to release this excess energy on a daily basis to remain calm, centered, and fulfilled. This is not only important for you, but for those around you as well.
- Release pent-up heat on a DAILY basis → exercise, dance, yell into nature!
- If you feel anger, rather than giving into it or fueling it → try to acknowledge the root cause → then counterbalance with calming activities such as yoga, tai chi, and meditation.
- Set aside time in your schedule to REST (sit under a tree, spend time with family, read a book, play with a pet, take a walk in nature)
- Take a weekend trip to the mountains or to the beach to disconnect!
While it may feel against your nature, it is vitally important for you as a pitta to BALANCE the productivity you crave. You may be pleasantly surprised by the results!!
